In pursuit of enhancing public safety, the relevant law enforcement agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina have dismantled approximately 1,400 firearms and firearm components at the steelworks facility in Ilijaš.
These law enforcement agencies collected the decommissioned small and light firearms as part of their routine policing efforts. Simultaneously, a portion of the firearms was voluntarily surrendered by the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The operation to destroy firearms that were stored in police agency warehouses in Bosnia and Herzegovina was orchestrated by the Coordination Committee for Small Arms and Light Weapons Control, with financial support from the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in collaboration with the Center for Small Arms and Light Weapons Control in Eastern and Southeastern Europe (SEESAC), and with technical assistance from UNDP Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This event was conducted as part of the European Commission's IPA project "Support to Strengthening the Fight against Unauthorized Possession, Misuse, and Trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in the Western Balkans."
